San Francisco State University’s Sierra Nevada Field Campus has been in existence since the 1950s. You would be hard pressed to find another place, possibly in the entire United States, that offers week long classes and workshops in science, art and nature education and more at such affordable rates! Classes combined with glamping under a Sierran sky with a top-notch kitchen willing to accommodate all diets, is a rare find indeed! The comradery and new friendships that develop on campus is treasured by all.
Our buildings have historical value and we work closely with the Forest Service to maintain the look and ambience of the period in which they were built. The Field Campus operates on a modest budget with a tight staff for 3+ months each summer. Class fees, along with tent and meal registration fees (discounted for enrolled college students), usually don’t entirely cover the expense load each season. The program relies on volunteers and donations from you to make up the difference.
How can you support the Field Campus?
~Spread news and information about the unique educational offerings each summer. Sign up for classes with your friends and share your schedule and our website.
~Make a financial donation ~ 2 ways to do this!
- Donate directly through San Francisco State University. Where it says: “I would like to support” scroll down and click “Sierra Nevada Field Campus”. The rest is self explanatory. Your gift is 100% tax deductible. https://www.applyweb.com/public/contribute?s=sfusceng
- In August of 2017, a small group of instructors and students convened to find ways to support our beloved SNFC. From that group, the Friends of Sierra Nevada Field Campus was born. An all-volunteer board formed, non-profit status achieved and funds raised. The current fundraising focus is on the deferred maintenance on the campus. The list is long, but Friends (with your support) are gradually providing funds to upgrade plumbing, heating, roofing and a myriad of other (sometimes invisible) repairs. Your gift is 100% tax deductible. Visit their website for further information and to donate: https://friendsofsnfc.org/
~ Visit the Friends of SNFC Facebook page to like and enjoy information about the program and to receive timely announcements ~ and to spread the word about SNFC: https://www.facebook.com/FriendsoftheSierraNevadaFieldCampus/
