Travel Options

The Sierra Nevada Field Campus is located in a rural area and transportation options are very limited. Here are some potential ways for getting yourself to the Field Campus:

1. Carpool! We strongly encourage carpooling to the Field Campus. We will reach out a couple weeks in advance of your class to connect you with your classmates. Participants can self-organize carpooling. Field Campus staff cannot facilitate carpooling directly but will connect folks in order to make plans.

2. Public transportation: Trains and busses can get you close but can only get you so far. Participants can take the train to Truckee which is about 1 hour away. You would then need to coordinate with classmates or others to try and get a ride the last bit of the way.

3. Flying: If you are coming from far away, the closest airport would be Reno (1.5 hours away). You could rent a car from the airport and drive up to the campus.

We are trying to find funding for vans to use for transporting students from the Bay Area and the Truckee train station. If you are interested in supporting this effort or connecting us with donors or organizations who can help, please contact us at snfc@sfsu.edu. Thanks!
